Full Day Loch Lomond Own 4x4 Experience

This is a great opportunity to put your 4x4 through its paces in a safe environment as you discover the incredible landscape around Loch Lomond and Loch Long.

The trek is led and followed by our instructors in our fully equipped support vehicles, which are on hand should anyone get into any difficulty.

Vehicle Requirements

The trek takes place on historic, unmaintained estate tracks, which have lots of loose rocks, so all-terrain tyres are required. We cannot take vehicles with low profile road tyres, as they risk having wheels damaged, or soft sidewalls punctured by sharp rocks.

There are rocky areas, ruts and ditch crossings, so ground clearance similar to a standard Land Rover Defender is essential (around 240mm under the lowest mechanical point). Vehicles must be in good roadworthy condition, with no fluid leaks or serious defects.

The Day In Detail

The full-day experience starts in the village of Luss, on the west side of Loch Lomond, with morning coffees and breakfast rolls at The Loch Lomond Arms Hotel.

We start with a driver briefing, covering off-road driving techniques and own vehicle familiarisation (where required). Each vehicle is equipped with a two-way radio and we have a chat about convoy procedures and radio etiquette. The radios are essential to the running of the day, and the banter on the radios gets better and better as the day goes on. We love seeing the camaraderie develop in the group as everyone get to know each other.

The trek begins with a visit to our area high in the hills above Luss with fantastic views across Loch Lomond’s islands. We have an amazing network of tracks offering a range of challenging and fun obstacles, including steep ascents, descents, rock crawls, side slopes, river crossings, mud and ruts. Our instructors are on hand to offer expert advice on off-road driving techniques, with one to one tuition available, helping you to get the best from your 4x4.

We often spilt the trek for a short period to cater for different vehicles and abilities. We take the more experienced/adventurous guests (or those not quite as precious about their vehicles), through the most extreme terrain we have to offer, and give guests the chance to opt out of that particular section, if for example their brand new vehicle with immaculate paintwork is their pride and joy.

We pause for a gourmet hilltop picnic, or if the weather is wild we return to The Loch Lomond Arms Hotel for a wonderful buffet lunch (included) before setting off on the afternoon trek.

In the afternoon, we run a guided trek over Glen Douglas to Loch Long, where we have a fantastic track, which provides a real challenge with long steep loose rocky ascents and descents, and the views are nothing short of spectacular.
